headstones are the most challanging of the sculptures i make. I still call them sculptures because that is the way I approach them and the reason past clients have come to me. the whole process is quite lengthy due the sensitive and personal nature of the work. the basic framework is as follows.Design Phase - this is usually the longest phase, as it is the most important. Where possible I like to meet in person for an initial design discussion. The main choices are worked through at this point; scale, orientation (flat or standing), lettering style and overall appearance. Some of these choices may be prescribed by the site. Once a general idea is clear I offer several rough sketches, before honing the design along the lines of the clients choices.Aquisition and formal drawing - having received a definate choice of design I arrange for a suitable stone to be brought to my workshop and the design can be transferred at full scale onto it. Pictures can be made available to the client at this point
Production - once everyone is happy with the full-scale design the work can begin.Delivery and installation - It is usually required that I take care of delivery and installation. This insures that the final finish and look are as required.Pricing - this varies hugely in line with content but as a rough guide stones with usual amount of content start from around £1500 or from £2500 if the back is also sculpted.Payment is broken down roughly into fifths, with two fifths payable before aquisition, two fifths before production and the final one fifth after installation.
